Do you ever feel weighed down by the pressure to be perfect or to get things just right? Sometimes we put these high expectations on ourselves. Other times we feel this pressure from others’ expectations or even apply our high expectations to others. Perfectionism often comes at a cost: less joy in life and relationships, and more stress, anxiety and procrastination.

Perfectionistic behaviors can include things like:

  • Redoing things until they’re just right
  • Avoiding a task or opportunity unless you’re sure you can do it perfectly
  • Controlling the outcome by taking on others’ responsibilities
